Its that time of year again when we start preparing for a new season. My thoughts are already on the salmon and the season starts again in just a few days time on the 15th January where I fish on the Tay. I am preparing for my first outing with Intruders a steel head pattern from the USA and equally effective for Atlantic salmon. Some of you will also be thinking of the Trout season which will follow. Whatever your interest, you want to try tying flies, or you enjoy tying already why do you not come and join us. No pressure but here are the details.

Milngavie Fly Dressers Guild
Friday, November 21st, 2014The Milngavie Fly Dressers decided on the 16th January 2014 that they would become a branch of the Fly Dressers Guild. This is great news for Glasgow as the original Glasgow Branch ceased in approximately 2002. The attraction was the ability to participate in the Guild’s Bronze, Silver and Gold awards scheme. Everything else at our meetings remain the same.
Membership of the Guild providing the subscription is paid via the branch before the end of October is £17 for the year. If you join later the subscription becomes £20. In return you get a number of benefits details of which you can find at the link above. The main ones are a quarterly magazine and discounts from select supplier so your £20 is easily recouped. We will still be charging £3 for attendance at one of our meetings. Contact details for our branch can be found on the FDG link above.
Autumn 2014
Friday, November 21st, 2014I have been a bit quiet on my blogg recently about most things for a number of reasons. I feel that I should update information about the Milngavie Branch of the Fly Dressers Guild. We are still meeting on a Thursday evening at Milngavie Library and regularly have a dozen tiers attend weekly. We now have a group of tiers who completed the FDG Bronze award and are now working towards their Silver award. In addition we have a couple of complete beginners who are supported by existing members. The Autumn session ends on the 3rd December and we commence again in January. I will endeavor to publish our program for the spring once completed.
